What To Expect

There’s no denying that Malaga has a legendary food scene. You only need to look at its markets, restaurants and cafes for that. But it’s the seafood that really sets this place apart, and you’ll dive into this side of Malaga’s cuisine on this guided tour. Fernando, one of our expert local guides, says “seafood is on the menu in most places here, but not a lot of tourists dig into the history and heritage of such an important part of our regional cuisine. By booking this tour, you can experience something not a lot of people know about.”After meeting your guide at the agreed start point, you’ll follow them to one of the city’s fishing neighbourhoods. You’ll walk along the seafront to get there, so as you can expect, the views are top-notch. When you arrive, your guide will tell you all about the history and tradition of fishing in Malaga. Plus, you’ll have the chance to mingle with a few local fishermen and hear from them what life is like. From here, you’ll visit the Casa de Banos, a heritage site where you can learn about the fishing methods and boats that’ve been used since the beginning of the 20th century.Next, instead of hearing about the food, you’ll have a chance to taste it. Espetos are really popular in Malaga, and you’ll see how they’re made firsthand during a cooking demo. Sardines and other fish are placed on canes of wood and roasted over an open fire that’s built on the sand. When they’re ready to eat, you’ll relax on the waterfront and tuck in.
